Great staff! Punctual and very informative!
The nurses are great. They are fast, friendly, and understanding. Dr. Alvarez, however, does not listen to the patient. He only goes by labs, not individual symptoms, and refused to listen to even suggestions from the nurses who point out things he missed on labs. You usually have to wait 2 weeks to receive lab results, and wait times have been up to 3 hours. One day, I saw that his car wasn't in the designated parking spot, and the receptionist called him back from lunch 20 minutes after I arrived.
I’ve been going to see Dr. Alvarez for 2 years. LOVE the staff. Very friendly and clean office. It’s always a roll of the dice when Tri Care picks my doctor but I’ve been super happy. He’s very quirky but friendly. Get ready to wait cuz he spends a good amount of time in the room with each patient. Sometimes I have waited an hour just to get in a room. It’s worth it though.
I've seen Dr. Alvarez on two separate occasions. On both occasions my appointment had to be rescheduled & I had to wait over an hour to be seen (even when my appointment was the first appointment of the day). The nurses are pleasant, but also seem to be irritated with Dr. Alvarez's behavior. Dr. Alvarez had a lengthy discussion while speaking Spanish with his nurse during my appointment. He also answered his personal phone & spoke for several minutes on his phone during my appointment. I felt as if he did not listen to my concerns. He also was looking at another patient's medical record during my appointment & got my condition confused with the other patient. As for billing, it has been a nightmare. I have received FOUR separate bills (& yes, I'm insured) from my two appointments and no one in the office (or their bill outsourcing company can explain why). It's not that I mind paying the bill, but I don't understand why I'm receieving two separate bills for a single appointment (no labs, no procedures, just a typical appointment). I have even received a bill THREE months after I was last seen.
All in all, I will be finding a new endocrinologist.
Dr. Alvarez is amazing. I have been a diabetic for over 20 years and when I went to see him about a year ago, he literally saved my life. I am only 26 and I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Kidney failure and had gained over 40-50 pounds due to over dosage on my insulin by my previous endo. Dr. Alvarez cup my insulin dosage to a much smaller portion and changed some of my pills around. I went from 43% kidney to function to almost 80% now and ive lost almost all of the weight I gained previously. I will forever say that my last endo of almost 20 years nearly caused my life to be cut too short, but Dr. Alvarez changed that. The wait is ridiculous sometimes but I would much rather wait and get quality care than to be rushed. When I express my concerns to him, I always feel like he listens and truly does his best to help me however he can. I love this crew.
If you have thyroid issues, I definitely recommend going to someone who will adjust your medication based on your symptoms, not just a chart of what is "normal".
